SMX Corporation is in search of a Junior Project Accountant to join our Project Accounting Team.

The selected candidate will be tasked with the setup and ongoing management of Deltek Costpoint for both direct and indirect projects.

This position is critical in ensuring that project configurations are executed efficiently, promptly, and accurately, in accordance with SMX Corporation's Policies and Procedures.

The ideal applicant will possess experience in project accounting and familiarity with Costpoint 8, or demonstrate a strong willingness to learn.

Reporting directly to the Director of Project Accounting and Revenue Compliance, the Junior Project Accountant will collaborate with Program Managers, Contracts, Finance, and other essential departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive project support for all contract types within the company’s project portfolio (FP, CR, T&M, Hybrids).
  • Prepare necessary revenue adjustments.
  • Work closely with Group Finance Leads, Program Managers, Contracts, and the accounting team to ensure project setup aligns with billing, revenue recognition, and reporting requirements as per company policy.
  • Review and interpret contracts to guarantee accurate initial setup in Costpoint.
  • Act as a liaison among stakeholders to address inquiries, investigate project discrepancies, and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings for New Awards, Option Years, and other significant changes when applicable.
  • Maintain an updated repository of all contract setup and modification documentation.
  • Manage multiple program tasks concurrently while prioritizing efforts to meet strict timelines and ensure service level agreements are fulfilled.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with the Deltek Costpoint projects module.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, customer-focused, and collaborative team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, presented in a clear, friendly, professional, and proactive manner.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage with others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and formulas.
  • US Citizenship is required for work under DoD contracts.
