Long Term Care Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in providing skilled nursing assessments and direct care to our residents at South Peninsula Hospital's Long Term Care Facility. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will take an active role in planning resident care and ensuring the quality of care given to our residents.
Responsibilities:
Administer medications/treatments to residents, oversee, monitor, and coordinate care performed by assigned staff per State/Federal regulations. Provide nursing care in other nursing departments of the facility to meet resident/patient care needs. Maintain BLS certification and keep current with CEU credits as required by the State of Alaska. A minimum of one (1) year experience in Gerontology, preferably in a Long Term Care facility, is desired. Speaking, listening, and writing skills are required to effectively communicate with others and document care provided. Ability to complete computer documentation is required. Numerical ability is required to calculate drug dosages. Obtain and maintain competency in IV therapy per facility policy. Complete General and Licensed staff orientation for LTC. Possess supervisory skills/aptitude.
Work Environment:
South Peninsula Hospital is a combination 22-bed critical access hospital and 28-bed skilled LTC Facility located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The position requires walking and standing for prolonged periods, stooping, sitting, and the ability to lift large loads without injury to self or others. Persons in this position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases, falls, needle stick injuries, and muscle strains. Mechanical lifts are available for lifting residents as needed. Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on the demands of the work and scheduling needs.
