About the Role
Dollar General is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a DC Operations Intern. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in supporting the smooth operation of our distribution centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with management to work on special projects, focusing on process improvements and efficiency gains.
- Assist in managing and streamlining day-to-day operations, including timely receipt, stocking, order filling, and shipment of merchandise.
- Supervise employees operating rolling stock equipment and/or automated equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Conduct start-up meetings to communicate daily volume and safety topics, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
- Utilize Standard Operating Procedures to resolve and correct problems, communicating issues to management for prompt resolution.
- Identify improvement areas through the Productivity Improvement Plan process, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Review quality measurements and report status to management, ensuring high-quality products and services.
- Maintain positive employee relations, managing employee records and providing support to employees as needed.
- Support safety programs to reduce or eliminate employee injuries, promoting a safe working environment.
- Report weekly to management on project status and overall performance, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Undergraduate or graduate business student with a major in Supply Chain Management or a related field.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to physically move throughout the distribution center to monitor the flow of merchandise.
- Exposure to dust, varied lighting, and noise.
- Some heavy lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling may be required to assist employees when necessary.
Compensation
New Hire Starting Pay Rate: $20.50*
*Eligible for a $0.70/hour shift differential if assigned to weekend shift, a $1.00/hour shift differential if assigned to second shift, and a $2.00/hour differential if assigned to the freezer department.
