About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the State of Virginia as a Medical Supervisor in a correctional facility setting. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing quality healthcare services to inmates and employees during emergency events.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and other medical staff
  • Direct a team of corrections nurse technicians, registered nurses, and support services
  • Ensure inmates receive appropriate medical care
  • Provide skilled nursing care to inmates

You will also be responsible for assessing inmates' health problems and needs, preparing and administering prescribed medications, initiating emergency interventions, and assisting physicians. Additionally, you will develop and implement medical/nursing guidelines and maintain accurate medical records.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing and a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license or a multi-state compact license. You should also possess knowledge of nursing and supervisory principles and practices, as well as medication usage, actions, and side effects.
