Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Commissioning Superintendent in managing project commissioning activities, serving as a lead role for the respective commissioning discipline.
  • Develop and maintain an overall project commissioning plan, including deliverables and due dates to comply with contract requirements.
  • Perform required inspections on utility PV systems, working individually and within a team.
  • Lead the interface between the project site and the Commissioning team on site.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning meetings and all commissioning activities.
  • Prepare and document commissioning meeting minutes and upload them to construction management software (CMS).
  • Proactively review the site-specific commissioning tracker before the commencement of commissioning activities to ensure all pre-energization activities are covered.
  • Lead site walks and manage the Job Book Table of Contents (TOC) for project-specific requirements and reports requested client-requested changes to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Coordinate craft and equipment support for commissioning activities.
  • Participate in safety programs and discussions before energization.
  • Verify all applicable equipment is LOTO'd before energization and implement a power control program to ensure safety is maintained across project execution.
  • Participate in assigned project design documents and drawing reviews.
  • Review and track test report submittals and ensure all required submittals are closed before energization.
  • Review the subcontract agreements and commissioning plans to get a good understanding of the scope of the subcontractors.
  • Conduct audits of project commissioning documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist the team in training project personnel to perform field verification during the commissioning process.
  • Ensure that commissioning and documentation are completed per contract requirements.
  • Communicate and implement Blue Ridge Power's Commissioning Procedures for all personnel under Blue Ridge Power's authority on the project site.
  • Constantly solve problems and resolve issues through face-to-face and personal communication.
  • Work with Commissioning Lead or Commissioning Manager to develop project lessons learned items at project completion.
  • Assist in preparing commissioning reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by keeping current on applicable processes, practices, and best methods.
Requirements
  • 2-3+ years of commissioning experience in the utility-scale solar industry.
  • A clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures.
  • Advanced Racking and Tracker commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, manufacturer training, and/or certification.
  • Advanced Inverter commissioning, operation, communications, troubleshooting, manufacturer training, and/or certification.
  • Advanced DAS systems, communication systems, operations, programming, manufacturer training, and/or certification.
  • Good knowledge of MV Transformers and other Renewable Energy Balance of System (BOS) Advanced Construction, structural, and electrical single-line and three-line drawings, markups, redlines, and RFIs.
  • Good knowledge of Utility and Interconnection (Substation and POI) Equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Transmission scale solar experience preferred.
  • Experience working with solar tracker systems.
  • Subcontractor and vendor management.
Education and Certifications
  • Associate degree in electrical engineering or related field of study required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license required.
  • NABCEP Certification or equivalent education is required.
  • OSHA 30 or 100 is required.
  • An electrical license and/or equivalent education are required.
  • High Voltage Certification preferred.
  • Low Voltage Certification preferred.
  • NABCEP PV Associate Certification preferred.
  • NFPA 70e preferred.
  • OSHA 30 preferred.
Working Environment and Physical Demand
  • 70-80% travel to assigned project(s); field and on-site office-based work.
  • Must have the ability to travel and be flexible when traveling to multiple states.
  • Must possess reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to comply with all company safety standards and procedures, including OSHA requirements.
  • Must follow organization policies and procedures.
  • Individuals in this position work in an outdoor environment and must be able to tolerate all climates.
  • Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk short to long distances for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
