Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC). As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and readiness of our naval shore facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site investigations and collect data to refine project scope and develop detailed working drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other engineers and architects to ensure seamless integration of building systems.
  • Act as the final authority on scope compliance and resolve design review comments with A/E firms.
  • Track project progress to ensure timely completion within construction budgets and design schedules.
  • Coordinate and approve requests for deviations or changes to contract terms and conditions.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be able to travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Must be able to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Qualifications

Mid-Level (GS-12): In addition to the basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Analyzing/designing fire protection systems for a variety of facilities.
  • Interpreting/Applying codes, standards, regulations, and policies such as Building and Fire codes.
  • Preparing/Reviewing outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, and engineering fee estimates for Architect-Engineer contracts.
  • Preparing/Reviewing calculations, cost estimates, project documents, reports, and designs for technical adequacy and engineering practice.

Associate Level (GS-11): In addition to the basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Reviewing/Inspecting fire protection systems for a variety of facilities.
  • Applying codes, standards, regulations, and policies such as Building and Fire codes.
  • Assisting with engineering calculations, cost estimates, project documents, reports, and designs.
