Junior Project Engineer

Hecate Energy is on the lookout for a motivated and early-career Project Engineer to support the engineering efforts for solar and energy storage initiatives within our extensive development pipeline. The role will be based in Chicago, IL, and will report directly to the Director of EPC.
Key Responsibilities- Develop initial conceptual and preliminary designs for solar and storage projects aimed at interconnection, permitting, project sales, and construction readiness.
- Optimize solar array designs, assess meteorological resources, estimate energy production, and evaluate land for construction feasibility.
- Work closely with manufacturers of Modules, Inverters, Racking, and Transformers to gather technical specifications and integrate them into project designs.
- Assist the Project Development team with the technical components of project proposals and permitting processes.
- Oversee Scopes of Work, manage external consultants, and support the review of deliverables for third-party design packages from initial concepts to Issued For Construction (IFC) documents and studies, including Geotechnical, Hydrological, and Topographical Engineering Studies.
- Consolidate information and insights across various disciplines to create a financially optimized and cohesive project design and execution strategy.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, design standards, and technical requirements for utility-scale projects throughout the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
- Travel to project sites and other locations as necessary to assist with site evaluations and construction activities.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a foreign equivalent, with a preference for Civil or Electrical engineering.
- 0-2+ years of full-time or internship experience in utility-scale solar design, focusing on cross-disciplinary design optimization.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for renewable energy.
- Adept at navigating ambiguity and driving technical initiatives forward.
- Familiarity with tools such as PVsyst, NREL SAM, PVlib, QGIS, AutoCAD, Excel, Python, R, and VBA is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel for site visits or meetings as required (up to 25%).
- A valid US driver's license.
- Self-awareness and appreciation for the diverse traits of team members.
