The Staff Accountant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for the financial management of trust funds and administration of the office expense budget. This role requires strong financial skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review annual report components, including case administration financial data, fee analysis data, trust account fund transfers, interest earned on fiduciary accounts, active and inactive cases, review and reconciliation of bank trust accounts, and bond analysis data.
- Manage the relationship with auditors appointed by the U.S. Trustee, prepare a monthly year-to-date report, coordinate activities relating to the annual audit, review management letter submitted by audit firm and prepare a response under Trustee direction, ensure internal procedures comply with audit requirements, examine financial processes and determine if proper audit and fiscal controls exist, communicate recommendations to trustee, and determine controls for work flow and ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Prepare fiscal year budget, oversee preparation of fiscal year budget submitted to the U.S. Trustee for approval, involve management team in the budgetary process, and ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Bachelor's degree required; some graduate school courses and/or Certified Public Accountant preferred.
- At least ten years accounting experience can be substituted for a college degree.
The Staff Accountant is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, including overtime. This role operates with minimal supervision in most job responsibilities, with coaching and feedback provided by the Trustee.
