Position Overview
Delivers direct patient care, education, and support within a specialized clinic environment. Acts as a clinical and community resource, educator, and consultant. Capable of coordinating and providing care for patients based on detailed treatment protocols established by physicians without the need for direct supervision.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, no weekends, holidays, or on-call

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivers direct patient care in an outpatient specialty environment. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of diagnoses, medications, and treatment options specific to the specialty. Assesses the effectiveness of care in collaboration with the physician.
  • Acts as the primary contact for patients and their families, which may include 24-hour availability. Effectively performs phone triage by involving physicians when necessary while utilizing critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge to address most concerns independently.
  • Triages the current patient population and incoming referrals, prioritizing the scheduling of office visits and testing with physician input as needed. Collaborates with the physician on service to determine the scheduling of urgent patients and communicates any changes in schedule.
  • Assists with in-office procedures, ensuring comfort and safety measures for patients before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Identifies the educational needs of patients and families, collaborating with team members and community resources to ensure objectives are met. Develops and maintains educational materials that promote adherence to treatment plans.
  • Takes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment and conducting environmental rounds to uphold patient care standards.
  • Leads the development and implementation of the orientation program for the specialty, ensuring new staff are well-educated and prepared to provide safe, effective care. May define competencies for the specialty and observe and document staff proficiency annually. May lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement projects, policies, and procedures specific to the specialty area.
  • Collaborates with team members to plan, develop, and implement educational programs and seminars in the community and within the organization. Serves as a resource for other team members, hospital staff, and specialty practices, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Evaluates personal nursing practice in relation to professional standards, guidelines, state statutes, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and current specific knowledge. Maintains competency through ongoing education and professional activities. Reflects on identified strengths and areas for growth and improvement.
  • Seeks knowledge of costs associated with clinical supplies and allocation of personnel resources to promote more cost-effective outcomes.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Education

Associate's Degree in Nursing

Minimum Experience

1 year of Clinical Nursing Experience within the specialty

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

RN - REGISTERED NURSE - (Code NLRN)

Other Required Experience

Certification in specialty area or pediatrics - Preferred
