Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Geologist 2 to join our team at the State of Alaska. The successful candidate will be responsible for updating the Alaska Geochronology Database, a critical component of our geological research and mapping efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate new data into the existing database, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with senior programmers to support data mapping, transfer, and quality control between the Alaska Geochronology Database and the National Geochronology Database.
  • Conduct spot quality control checks of existing compiled data, verifying sample and geochronologic analytical data with DGGS field station and sample databases.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological engineering, engineering geology, or a related field.
  • One year of professional-level experience in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological engineering, engineering geology, or a related field.
  • Background knowledge of geochronologic methods, including conventional U-Pb, K-Ar, 40Ar/39Ar, and Rb-Sr.
  • Knowledge of data management principles, procedures, and tools, including modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, data disposal, and data standardization processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
