About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join International Paper as a Process Controls Engineer, where you will play a critical role in the maintenance and engineering organization. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with various functional groups, including operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ownership, administration, design, and maintenance of critical mill control systems, networks, assets, communication, and equipment.
  • Ownership, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of control systems' security, back-ups, and recovery schemes.
  • Designing and implementing process control strategies to support new and existing processes, responsible for process efficiency improvements and optimization, process variability reduction, compliance with environmental and safety requirements, and equipment/process reliability.
  • Optimization of mill processes via subsystem balancing, supervisory controls, loop tuning, etc.
  • Repairing, or assisting in the repair of, both operational and functional Control System related problems.
  • Supporting the training of operators and maintenance personnel on control or system functionality.
  • Promoting the business continuity of process control systems through documentation, training, and management-of-change.
  • Assisting with and/or acting as a project manager for capital improvement projects, including the design, selection, and approval of both automation hardware and software.
  • Assisting with management of vendors and contractors on-site, including representing the company as an on-site Contract Coordinator.
  • Assisting with Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs).
  • Sharing responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for all Process Control and mill electrical and instrumentation needs.
  • Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and maintenance employees.
  • Support training of operators and maintenance personnel on new control functions.
  • Assist technical groups with process improvement activities.
  • Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations.
Requirements
  • 5+ years' experience as a process control engineer is highly preferred.
  • Process knowledge in Pulp and Paper manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in other manufacturing/engineering positions will be considered.
  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and safety leadership, as well as effective facilitation, project execution, and follow-up and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Proficient to advanced skills and knowledge with MS Office and Network Applications is required.
  • Experience with the following infrastructure and programming: Foxboro I/A, Allen Bradley PLC, Honeywell TDC3000, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, GE Mark-IV, and ABB DriveComposer.
  • Experience with OPCDA, OPCUA, Modbus, and AIM*API protocols.
  • Experience using and developing P&ID, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and strategy narratives.
  • Networking certifications (Network+, Cisco CCNA, IMINS, etc.).
  • Cybersecurity Certifications (Security+, IEC62443, CISSP, etc.).
