Position Overview:
Resource Environmental Solutions LLC is seeking applications for the role of Environmental Scientist I. This position is integral to our ecology and regulatory team, focusing on various aspects of fieldwork while contributing to technical report writing and data management.


The Environmental Scientist will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring effective teamwork and communication.


Daily Responsibilities:
As a vital team member, you will support our Field Ecology team, spending approximately 50-80% of your time in the field. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Collecting diverse field data, such as delineating streams and wetlands.
  • Monitoring vegetation and conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys.
  • Performing hydrologic monitoring tasks.

Please note that this role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including both cold and hot environments. Physical demands include walking long distances, navigating challenging terrain, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and engaging in other physical activities.

Travel across the state is common, with overnight stays required for various projects.


Around 20-50% of your time will be dedicated to office tasks, including:
  • Data entry, processing, and analysis.
  • Technical writing, including drafting reports based on fieldwork and developing restoration plans.
  • Producing regulatory deliverables.

Strong writing, communication, and computer skills (proficiency in MS Word, Excel, etc.) are essential. You will be responsible for preparing reports, figures, and other components of regulatory documents related to restoration and mitigation projects.


Qualifications:
We invite candidates with the following qualifications to apply:


- BA/BS in an environmental science discipline, such as ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, or hydrology.

- Experience in wetland delineations and stream assessments.

- Proficiency in geomorphology data collection and processing.

- Strong knowledge of plant identification and vegetation in the southeastern region.

- Ability to interpret environmental assessments and mapping.


Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in writing environmental and regulatory documents.

- Familiarity with field monitoring practices, including stream geomorphic surveying and vegetation sampling.

- Experience working with federal and state resource and regulatory agencies.

- Skills in collecting and analyzing benthic macroinvertebrates.

- Proficiency with Trimble GPS units, ArcGIS Pro, and other ESRI data collection software.

- Relevant certifications such as CERP, PWS, or permits for threatened/endangered species collection.

- Knowledge of NC SAM, NC WAM, and/or NCDWQ Stream Identification Form.
