Fiberglass Technician Job Description

Job Summary:

Fiberglass technicians play a crucial role in our team, responsible for fabricating high-quality fiberglass boat components using advanced marine techniques. This position requires a strong understanding of epoxy, polyester resins, gelcoat, and fiberglass cloth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform structural and cosmetic fiberglass repairs and fabrication using epoxy and polyester resins.
  • Determine the type of resin and catalyst required for each application and accurately measure the amounts needed.
  • Apply multiple layers of mat or fiber to surfaces, ensuring adhesion and achieving the desired thickness, contour, and strength.
  • Hand lay sections of saturated mat or cloth in place on molds, using proper tooling to ensure correct placement and smooth out air pockets and wrinkles.
  • Safely create a vacuum bag barrier on fabricated parts and operate a vacuum pump to evacuate air from the fabrication area.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following the company's safety policy.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in structural lay-up of matting materials, grinding, and prep for repairs of finished products.
  • Knowledge of spraying and brushing of gel coatings is required.
  • Yacht paint and surface prep work is a plus. Carpentry skills and mold fabrication are also a plus.
