Job Summary

A Polysomnography Technologist at King's Daughters plays a vital role in providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This position involves working under the general supervision of the clinical director to collect, analyze, and integrate patient information, and to determine final testing parameters and procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.

Duties and Essential Functions
  • Collect and analyze patient information to identify specific needs and determine testing parameters.
  • Complete and verify documentation, and explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to patients.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment, apply electrodes and sensors, and perform physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition, monitoring study-tracing quality, and implementing interventions as necessary.
  • Document routine observations, sleep stages, and clinical events, and score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to center-specific protocols.
  • Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
Education, License, Certification, and Other Requirements
  • Maintains active certification/registration in one of the following credentials: RPSGT, RST, or SDS.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Kentucky state license (if required based on credential).
  • Experience with CPAP, Bi-PAP, and Pulse Oximetry.
Working Environment

Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.

Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position, walk, and move about.
  • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment, use fine motor skills, and communicate with patients and other care team.
  • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
