Position Overview

The Fundraising Communications Specialist collaborates closely with the Chief Development Officer, program leaders, and operational teams to craft compelling grant applications and reports, donor engagement materials, direct mail campaigns, digital communications, and various written resources to support a comprehensive fundraising initiative for diverse audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Application Development:

· Create, refine, and finalize grant applications targeting foundations, corporations, and select government entities to effectively persuade stakeholders to support Daybreak.

Grant Reporting:

· Generate, prepare, and edit grant reports for foundations and corporations in alignment with specified reporting requirements.

Direct Mail Campaign Development:

· Partner with the Chief Development Officer to devise storytelling strategies and content, overseeing direct mail marketing initiatives.

Donor Engagement Communications:

· Lead the creation of donor communications, including acknowledgment letters, annual impact reports, and tailored correspondence for donors.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exemplifies advocacy and leadership, demonstrating belief in the potential of clients, where applicable.

Ensures timely completion of all tasks as per organizational guidelines and program policies.

Engages in regular meetings with supervisors to discuss execution strategies and address any pertinent issues.

Reports any potential or actual emergencies, including criminal activities or health crises, that may affect safety and public relations.

Models professionalism and contributes positively, employing constructive problem-solving techniques and valuing diverse opinions.

Avoids dual relationships or ethical boundary issues with clients, ensuring the protection of client rights and consulting supervisors when necessary.

Maintains a positive work environment, prioritizing the well-being of colleagues and clients.

Demonstrates appreciation and trust in the contributions of team members.

Participates in training and agency meetings as scheduled, fulfilling all required training obligations to comply with organizational policies.

Adheres to the agency's mission and maintains positive relations with all stakeholders, including clients, staff, vendors, and donors.

Attends all-staff meetings as required.

Operates agency vehicles when necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this role, candidates must effectively perform all essential duties. The following qualifications are essential:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, communications, English, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in grant writing or a related area. Proficiency in gathering information through interviews, online research, and phone discussions. Familiarity with standard practices and procedures relevant to the role, including expertise in English grammar, punctuation, and syntax; understanding of branding and positioning strategies for the organization and its projects; knowledge of effective communication channels.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret various documents, write routine reports, and communicate effectively in group settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, and other mathematical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and address problems involving multiple variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

2-3 years of professional grant writing experience, strong attention to detail, copywriting and editing skills, creative writing background, ability to write effectively for various formats, teamwork skills, and good organizational abilities.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

High energy, detail-oriented, proficient in time management, capable of handling multiple tasks, able to work independently, and skilled in building and maintaining relationships.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, or lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
