Job Summary

The Electronics Group of the Purchasing Department at Southwest Research Institute is seeking a highly skilled Group Leader to oversee the solicitation, negotiation, award, and document purchase orders in compliance with Institute policies and Government regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the group, including assigning, processing, and approving orders, and providing guidance on order-related issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Department, Institute, and Government regulations, while prioritizing resources based on project needs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance across the Department to resolve issues and place orders, and collaborate with other departments to achieve goals.
  • Process complicated orders and backup for all buyers in the group, and strive to find and implement ways to improve work efficiency.
  • Participate in management meetings to provide critical feedback and implement tasks/initiatives, and play an important role in updating purchasing policies and other relevant compliance/management documents.
  • Encourage a positive team dynamic through fostering a culture that allows for continuous learning and team building.
Daily and Monthly Tasks
  • Provide guidance on all order-related issues that arise before, during, and after the order.
  • Communicate with internal end-users to set priorities, expectations, and advise on policies and procedures, and handle their issues and concerns.
  • Process complicated orders and backup for all buyers in the group, and carry out one-on-one meetings with buyers to promote effective communication and prevent, document, and/or resolve work or performance issues.
  • Host group meetings to discuss common issues within the buyers' team, updates on Department news, and provide specific training on purchasing policies and procedures updates and best practices.
  • Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business or Supply Chain related degree, MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience administering, negotiating, and awarding Government Contracts/Orders, with working knowledge and experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARs).
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in a managerial role.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated high-quality written and oral communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
