Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Treatment Specialist to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals. As a key member of our Correctional Health Services team, you will provide high-quality behavioral health care to individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system.

Under the direction of a Senior/Clinical Supervisor, you will perform crisis and/or de-escalation interventions, therapeutic observations, individual and group engagements, client supervision, and other behavioral health-related duties. You will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to our patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices to support clients with agitated behavior.
  • Identifying client characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behavior and communicating this information to the treatment team.
  • Performing client checks/rounds and video surveillance, completing MH Rounds forms as required, and reporting observations, interactions, and client activity to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicating pertinent clinical matters in real-time to assigned supervisors or other professional staff as required.
  • Supporting medication administration and providing additional support to patients while being escorted.
  • Participating in staff, departmental, and team/committee meetings, as well as departmental quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities.
  • Participating in departmental and/or facility-wide training as required.
  • Leading or co-leading discussion/treatment groups and appropriately documenting group activity.

Requirements:

  • An Associate's degree in criminal justice, social services, or a health-related area; or a High School diploma or a G.E.D. and one (1) year of full-time experience in law enforcement, nursing, or psychiatric/behavioral health in a high-volume, intensive care environment.
  • Successful completion of an appropriate training program in the application and use of restraints and seclusion, as well as a training in the performance of vital signs and grooming within ninety (90) calendar days of appointment to the title.
