Role/ Department:

The Technology Specialist, Regulatory Validation and Relations role is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced technology audit professional to join our Regulatory Validation and Relations team.

This position will report directly to the Director in London and work closely with partners from across Audit Services located in Chicago and other global locations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and ensuring the successful execution and delivery of validation approaches through engagement with all levels of management from across Audit Services, businesses, and control functions.

This high-profile role will engage with senior members of Northern Trust and support the Director as a primary point of contact for Audit Services technology regulatory issue assurance activities.

The Specialist will play a key role in communicating, training, and supporting stakeholders and audit partners to understand and apply the technology validation methodology, as well as looking to continually improve our processes.

This individual will engage with the Global Technology Audit team to ensure a consistent approach is applied to technology validations.

The Technology Specialist will provide technology expertise and execution rigor to the management and coordination of technology regulatory issue validation.

A strong and confident communicator, the Specialist will promote a collaborative approach to enhance the risk and control environment for the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex and multiple project objectives concurrently, including resourcing, workpaper review, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Manage project resources to accomplish complex scopes of work and objectives in tight timeframes.
  • Identify emerging risks and react quickly.
  • Interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management and regulators.
  • Represent Audit Services in various committees, task forces, etc.
  • Lead, guide, and coach staff, and foster an environment that encourages partner participation, teamwork, and communication.
  • Work with the Global Technology Audit Team, other audit teams, and co-sources to define and deliver validation approaches.
  • Draft clear, concise audit reports and/or memos, ensuring timely communication of risks and audit conclusions to senior and executive management.
  • Maintain familiarity with and technical expertise on business unit(s) organizational structure, personnel, activities, and products, new product development, financial performance, and risk and problem areas.

Stay current on regulatory rules and changes within the industry.

Skills/Qualifications:


  • Seasoned auditing experience in the financial industry or public accounting, including risk assessment, coverage planning, and execution management.
  • Strong project management skills, with attention to detail, time management, and planning skills to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven cyber risk and security control experience, with the ability to develop and articulate complex issues.
  • Effective problem-solving, conceptual thinking, quantitative, and analytical skills.
  • Experience assessing and auditing compliance, risk management, and regulatory-related technology controls and tools, across a variety of platforms, against established standards and control frameworks.
  • Contemporary knowledge of global, regional, and local technology and data compliance, risk management, and experience with regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with junior staff, senior leaders, and deliver executive-level writing.
  • Develop trust-built relationships via well-developed listening and negotiation skills.
  • Confidence and expertise to negotiate with senior management, security professionals, and regulators in an audience-appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team of professionals effectively and efficiently.
  • Effective and independent perspective with a proactive and pragmatic approach in communicating issues to stakeholders.

Ability to adapt and react timely in a changing and dynamic work environment, tight deadlines, and variable workloads.

The successful candidate will benefit from having a College or University degree.
