Job Overview
Position Title: HVAC Helper

Employment Type: Salaried (based on experience) / Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday - Friday; 40 Hours per Week

Reports To: District Maintenance Supervisor & Facilities Director

Job Purpose: The HVAC Helper plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating and air conditioning systems across the district. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all HVAC systems within the facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Valid Texas driver's license
Experience:
  • Prior management experience is required.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages positive energy and teamwork among staff and contractors.
  • Monitor and adjust airflow and pressure within HVAC systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as lubricating mechanical components and replacing belts.
  • Inspect and repair condensers as necessary.
  • Ensure proper functioning of water treatment systems.
  • Install and calibrate compressors, read gauges, and adjust settings as required.
  • Maintain temperature settings in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests as needed.
  • Implement energy and water conservation practices.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all HVAC equipment, including filter changes and cleaning tasks.
  • Repair and calibrate controls, thermostats, and electrical wiring.

Equipment Utilized:
  • Multi-Meter, refrigeration gauges, welding equipment, and ladders.

Budget Management:
  • Oversee maintenance budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Initiate purchase orders in compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of supplies to prevent delays in operations.
  • Process invoices and purchase orders for the maintenance department.
  • Recommend disposal of outdated equipment and procure replacements as necessary.

Personnel Oversight:
  • Assess employee performance to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff, making informed recommendations regarding personnel decisions.

HVAC Maintenance Duties:
  • Schedule and replace air conditioning filters throughout the facilities.
  • Clean coils and ensure all units are functioning properly.
  • Report mechanical failures to the District Maintenance Supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain air conditioning systems at designated temperatures.

Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety standards in accordance with regulations and develop preventive safety programs.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in optimal working condition.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in disaster response efforts as needed.
  • Engage in professional development activities to stay updated on maintenance innovations.
  • Be available for after-hours emergencies as required.
  • Support extracurricular activities as necessary.
  • Travel between campuses as needed.

Supervisory Duties:
  • Oversee and evaluate the performance of support staff and contractors.

Community Engagement:
  • Promote the charter's mission to the community and encourage support for its objectives.
  • Understand and address the needs of the charter and community.
  • Utilize effective skills to enhance community and parental involvement.
  • Contribute to student recruitment initiatives.

Charter Environment:
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive atmosphere for learning.
  • Promote fairness and respect among students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
