Job Title: Native American Liaison

Breckenridge Independent School District 846 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Native American Liaison to join our team. As a key member of our school community, you will play a vital role in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for Native American students.

Job Summary:

The Native American Liaison will serve as a liaison between the school, Native American families, and Tribal Nations to foster strong, respectful, and supportive relationships. This role requires a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and educational challenges, as well as excellent communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individual social and emotional support plans for students, prioritizing preventive measures before referring students to special education services.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions through data collection and evaluation, tracking behavioral incidents, discipline records, and special education referrals.
  • Partner with school staff to foster a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment, enhancing students' mental health through comprehensive mental health support and services.
  • Provide consultation and resources for the development and implementation of culturally relevant curriculum, programs, and services that reflect Indigenous perspectives and values.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to provide direct support for students in need, particularly focusing on social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Lead the implementation of trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches in addressing student behavior, aiming to reduce exclusionary discipline and improve student well-being.
  • Work on dropout prevention, re-entry, and transition services for at-risk Native American students.
  • Act as a first responder to student crises, offering emotional support, resources, and interventions, while collaborating with counselors and external agencies for more intensive care if needed.
  • Work closely with families to address social and emotional challenges impacting students' education, helping to connect them with community resources and support services such as food, housing, and mental health care.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with Native American students and families, and an understanding of Indigenous cultures and educational challenges.
  • Proven ability to implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, educators, and Tribal Nations.
  • Experience in behavioral health, educational support, or student advocacy roles, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
Evaluation and Accountability:

The Native American Liaison and Student Support Advocate will be evaluated on their ability to foster a supportive and inclusive environment, reduce disciplinary incidents, and improve student mental health and academic outcomes.
