Job Title: Assistant Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Engineer to join our Public Works Department. As an Assistant Engineer, you will play a key role in providing technical support to our engineering team and contributing to the delivery of our Capital Improvement Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to the engineering team, including design, planning, and project administration.
  • Assist in managing the entire life cycle of various capital improvement projects, including planning, environmental clearance, design, procurement, and construction oversight.
  • Participate in the scoping of utility and roadway-related capital improvement projects and perform feasibility analysis, scheduling, and cost estimating work.
  • Prepare requests for bids and proposals for various public works projects and services, and evaluate submitted proposals.
  • Update the department's asset management program for roadways, sidewalks, storm drains, sanitary sewers, and public facilities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • One (1) year of professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration experience, preferably in a public agency setting.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.

  • A competitive salary range of $94,039 to $122,251, with a 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to be applied effective July 1, 2024.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 457 deferred compensation account and a retirement health savings (RHS) account.
  • A 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off, and a generous leave policy, including sick leave, wellness leave, and vacation time.
