Job Summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Worker II to join our team. As a key member of our transportation infrastructure team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of our state's highways and bridges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, including tandem and single axle dump trucks, specialized mowers, and medium-sized equipment such as belt loaders and skid steer loaders.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning pipes and ditches, repairing concrete sidewalks and gutters, and trimming vegetation.
  • Assist with producing daily records of work performed and materials used, including records of highway maintenance and repair.
  • Conduct safety inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Monitor the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life.
  • Operate portable tank mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges.
  • Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations, including being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
Requirements
  • Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
