Role Responsibilities:
As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will be part of a team that prioritizes safety, integrity, and professional development. This position primarily involves outdoor activities, allowing you to witness the transformation of construction projects while contributing to their success.
Testing Duties: Conduct assessments of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt with minimal supervision from senior technicians or professionals.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all equipment is kept clean and operational. Regularly maintain and calibrate tools.
Reporting Responsibilities: Document testing outcomes with minimal oversight. Provide inspection findings under direct supervision.
Plans and Specifications: Analyze plans and specifications to determine testing schedules and acceptable result ranges, with occasional guidance from senior personnel.
Inspection Duties: Carry out inspections related to project or building codes, based on acquired certifications, under close supervision.
Candidate Profile:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Vocational training is advantageous
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections for soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
- Possession of two or more active certifications, such as:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- Strong communication skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and measurement units
- Proficient in data entry across various software applications, including Microsoft Office and email
Physical Requirements:
Willingness and ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including:
- Working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
- Navigating rough and uneven terrain
- Standing for extended periods, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Lifting and carrying weights of 40-50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Safely maneuvering field equipment, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven surfaces
- Traveling for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of standard business hours when required
