Job Summary:
The Surgical Technician - Operating Room Specialist assists the surgical team in scrubbing duties. Responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon.
• Assist the RN with completion of operative charge and recording of hardware used during procedure.
• Collect specimens and cultures by verifying source and correct tissue identification with surgeon.
Requirements:
• High school diploma required.
• One year experience in operating room as a Surgical Technician or Surgical Technician training required.
• Certification or eligible for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or client BLS certification required.
Work Schedule:
• 13 weeks
• Varied 12-hour day/evening shifts
• On-call required
