Key Responsibilities
- 35% Serve as the Service Officer for the Field Services Division, overseeing the operations of a field office with a focus on claims processing and appeals initiation.
- 25% Advocate for veterans, retirees, spouses, and dependents regarding their eligibility for benefits.
- 15% Act as a liaison with various governmental agencies to establish veterans' entitlements to benefits and services.
- 15% Represent the Department at community events, providing information about the agency's functions.
- 5% Assist in training newly appointed Veterans' Service Officers.
- 5% Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
- Requires knowledge and skills equivalent to two years of college education with a focus on business or public administration.
- Must possess an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States during a recognized period of hostilities.
- In-depth understanding of the department's veterans' programs and operational policies.
- Familiarity with the benefits and services available to veterans and the relevant laws governing them.
- Experience in office management and providing services to military personnel and their families.
- Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders in the veteran community.
- Experience in preparing and delivering presentations to veterans' groups.
- Knowledge of federal and state veterans' legislation.
- Ability to analyze service records and medical documentation for benefits eligibility.
- Experience in advising clients on claims issues and responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral forms regarding veterans' benefits.
- Must pass a background check.
- Requires use of agency-provided equipment.
- Must obtain necessary certifications within the probationary period.
- Requires attendance at relevant seminars and training.
- Must be able to travel as required for job duties.
- Overtime may be required as part of the employment conditions.
