Key Responsibilities

  1. 35% Serve as the Service Officer for the Field Services Division, overseeing the operations of a field office with a focus on claims processing and appeals initiation.
  2. 25% Advocate for veterans, retirees, spouses, and dependents regarding their eligibility for benefits.
  3. 15% Act as a liaison with various governmental agencies to establish veterans' entitlements to benefits and services.
  4. 15% Represent the Department at community events, providing information about the agency's functions.
  5. 5% Assist in training newly appointed Veterans' Service Officers.
  6. 5% Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Requires knowledge and skills equivalent to two years of college education with a focus on business or public administration.
  2. Must possess an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States during a recognized period of hostilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. In-depth understanding of the department's veterans' programs and operational policies.
  2. Familiarity with the benefits and services available to veterans and the relevant laws governing them.
  3. Experience in office management and providing services to military personnel and their families.
  4. Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders in the veteran community.
  5. Experience in preparing and delivering presentations to veterans' groups.
  6. Knowledge of federal and state veterans' legislation.
  7. Ability to analyze service records and medical documentation for benefits eligibility.
  8. Experience in advising clients on claims issues and responsibilities.
  9. Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral forms regarding veterans' benefits.
Conditions of Employment
  1. Must pass a background check.
  2. Requires use of agency-provided equipment.
  3. Must obtain necessary certifications within the probationary period.
  4. Requires attendance at relevant seminars and training.
  5. Must be able to travel as required for job duties.
  6. Overtime may be required as part of the employment conditions.
Work Hours: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
