Job Summary:

The Natchitoches Parish Correctional Center is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to join our team. As a Medical Records Clerk, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and confidentiality of inmate health records, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate health records for inmates and maintain confidentiality of all medical record information.
  • Monitor and maintain accountability for all health records on file.
  • Pull and prepare health records for practitioner (medical, dental and mental health) sick call, chronic care clinics and transfers.
  • Maintain all active health records in alphabetical order.
  • Forward all diagnostic test results to the appropriate practitioner for review and countersignature.
  • Comply with the rules, directives, policies, procedures and protocols of the company.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of health services forms and clerical supplies.
  • Review records for completeness and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • File loose paper work and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Communicate to supervisors all difficulties in providing records upon request.
  • Retrieve records from clinic periodically throughout shift.
  • Integrate records from previous incarcerations, Infirmary and Mental Health records in current records when applicable.
  • Research intakes from previous shift.
  • Copies and mails records in response to authorized releases/requests.
  • Pull all records and corresponding labs for inmate worker medical clearances; file copy of clearance in record.
  • Pull all records for Administrative review for corresponding grievances; file copy of grievance in record.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years' experience is desirable, preferably in a correctional or medical setting.
  • C.N.A., E.M.T., C.M.A., or Medical Assistant preferred.
