Position Overview:
This role involves serving as a scrub technician within the surgical environment, delivering both direct and indirect patient care throughout the surgical process.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Monitor Operating Room Conditions:** Continuously assess the needs of patients and the surgical team during procedures.
2. **Prepare Surgical Environment:** Set up the operating room prior to procedures by gathering and verifying necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies, ensuring compliance with nursing protocols.
3. **Assist with Specimen Management:** Maintain and label specimens collected during surgical procedures according to established protocols.
4. **Perform Scrub Duties:** Act as a scrub technician during various surgical operations, managing sterile instruments and supplies while adhering to aseptic techniques.
5. **Maintain Cleanliness and Sterility:** Clean, sort, sterilize, and decontaminate operating room equipment and instruments, disposing of waste appropriately.
6. **Operate Support Equipment:** Assemble and monitor surgical support equipment to ensure optimal functioning.
7. **Assist Surgeons:** Under the direction of the surgical team, assist with tasks such as suctioning, cutting sutures, and dressing application/removal.
8. **Conduct Supply Counts:** Perform counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures to ensure accountability.
9. **Patient Transport:** Facilitate the transportation of patients to and from surgical services, assisting in their positioning and preparation for surgery.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting, assisting surgeons and medical personnel during surgical procedures.
- Alternatively, graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.
Certification Requirements:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, with occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds.
