Primary Role
The Culinary Service Associate plays a vital role in supporting the culinary team by assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, washing utensils, organizing supplies, aiding in meal delivery, and fulfilling various kitchen responsibilities as required.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties:
- Operates and maintains the dishwashing equipment, ensuring proper water and detergent levels; inspects and cleans the machine as necessary.
- Records the daily wash and rinse temperatures of the dishwashing unit.
- Performs cleaning tasks as per the established daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
- Disposes of waste, sanitizes sinks, disinfects tables, sweeps, mops, organizes, and stores supplies.
- Participates in scheduled training sessions and educational programs.
- Completes online training modules by specified deadlines.
Patient Meal Preparation:
- Assists in preparing meals for patients across multiple locations, including snacks and beverages, as well as special event meals.
- Follows instructions from the hospital dietitian to ensure meals meet dietary requirements.
- Utilizes a modified diet spreadsheet for assembling patient trays.
- Refers to tray cards for accurate meal assembly.
- Checks patient preferences, allergies, and dietary orders using the patient cardex.
- Records substitutions using the menu substitution log.
- Delivers meal trays to patient rooms and collects used trays for cleaning.
- Fulfills nutrition assistant responsibilities on weekends, ensuring pantry supplies are stocked and maintained.
Café Operations:
- Supports culinary staff in preparing breakfast and lunch items, including baking, frying, and assembling sandwiches, salads, and desserts.
- Sets up and breaks down the salad bar, including preparing container salads and plating desserts.
- Operates the cash register, manages transactions, and collaborates with the finance department for daily deposits.
- Prepares the food service line, serves meals, interacts with customers, and ensures cleanliness of the service area post-meal.
- Restocks café supplies, including snacks, beverages, and paper goods.
- Maintains coffee stations throughout the facility.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in food service or healthcare is preferred.
- Training will be provided by the food service manager and dietitian to ensure competency in job functions.
- Attendance at in-service training and educational programs is expected to maintain job proficiency.

Work Environment
