EEG Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled EEG Technician to join our team at Ochsner LSU Health System of North Louisiana. As an EEG Technician, you will play a critical role in conducting and preparing patients for routine Electroneurodiagnostic (END) procedures, including EEG, Evoked Potentials, and specialized studies in the clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities- Gather appropriate information from the patient, patient's records, and family members, as well as other neurological symptoms and medications to write an accurate comprehensive patient history.
- Recognize patient or environmental artifacts and document, eliminate or take proper measures to monitor the artifact.
- Ensure patient safety always by taking appropriate action during patient emergency situations.
- Interact with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the clinical staff and explain test procedures to the patient and family members present.
- Practice basic infection control procedures relating to patient and equipment including electrodes.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Required - Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred - Associate's degree or completion of an END Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or completion of a Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) Program accredited by American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)
- Required - Clinical experience equivalent to 3 or more years training in the field
- Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Preferred - Eligible for Certification in Neurodiagnostic Technology
The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
