Safety Coordinator

OVERVIEW

The role involves monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of students with special needs, staff, and school property. This position requires gathering information to effectively de-escalate situations, address behavioral issues, and determine suitable responses while providing written documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Willingness and ability to work with students with special needs.
  • Capability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Must successfully complete an agility assessment for security personnel.
  • Completion of a security training program is required before the end of the probationary period.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess specific security requirements for classrooms and the campus to maintain a safe environment.
  • Evaluate emergency situations to determine the appropriate response to ensure the safety of students, staff, and property.
  • Assist in non-crisis interventions or physical restraint during student de-escalation.
  • Monitor and document student behavior in designated areas.
  • Support students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
  • Assist in the transfer or lifting of students to aid in their daily activities.
  • Identify and report violations of school rules or state laws to the relevant authorities.
  • Provide support in maintaining order in the surrounding community as necessary.
  • Assist bus drivers with security and discipline issues on school transportation.
  • Participate in meetings to share insights and enhance skills.
  • Serve as a witness in disciplinary hearings or legal proceedings when required.
  • Prepare and submit oral and written reports as necessary.
  • Availability to work beyond standard hours when needed.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is essential.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
