Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Packaging Helper to join our team at King's Hawaiian. As a key member of our production team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe packaging of our bakery products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Remove finished bakery products from packaging conveyors and pack them into plastic baskets or corrugated master cases.
  • Pick up bakery products and place them in cases or trays, ensuring accurate and efficient packaging.
  • Monitor conveyors and packaging machine operation to prevent jams and dislodge them while following all safety procedures.
  • Remove filled cases from the discharge end of the tape machine and place them on pallets and conveyors.
  • Inspect products for damage or conformity to specifications prior to packing into master cases.
  • Transport completed pallets into the storage area.
  • Break up and stage case dividers, and supply empty cases to other packaging helpers.
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly by sweeping floors, wiping down equipment, and performing other sanitation tasks assigned.
  • Set the tape machine to product and case specifications, pass cases through the machine and printing system, and train others as needed.
  • Monitor tape on cases to ensure all flaps are sealed accurately with tape in the middle.
  • Verify that bar codes and lot numbers are printed accurately by the printing system.
  • Repack damaged cases on the line.
  • Monitor tape levels on the top and bottom of the machine and change rolls when necessary.
  • Clear any jams on the conveyor.
  • Report case counts on count sheets for each product that passes through the tape machine.
  • Operate material handling equipment to convey and store materials and finished goods.
  • Report equipment problems to the foreman and/or supervisor immediately.
  • Assist in training new employees or those who change job classifications.
  • Participate in all matters relating to safety and health in the work area and promote safety in our operations.
  • Plan and carry out job assignments without hazards to yourself and other employees.
  • Report all unsafe acts and/or conditions or equipment immediately.
  • Promote safety by understanding and following safety procedures and reporting incidents in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of general warehouse/production work experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals written in English.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Work Environment

This position is on a shift basis and may also be scheduled to work all shifts. While performing the duties of this job, there will be exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold. The noise level is usually high.
