About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Services Assistant to join our team at SSM Health. As a key member of our surgical services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient safety and comfort.
  • Position patients for optimal exposure and visualization, using stabilizing equipment as needed.
  • Implement physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site, using techniques such as manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing practice, ensuring that patient care is delivered based on age-specific needs and clinical requirements.
Requirements
  • Completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs.
  • Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty or an APRN with completed RNFA program.
