Job Title: Design Manager - Airports

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Manager - Airports to join our team at Psomas. As a key member of our Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) project team, you will be responsible for planning and designing capital improvement projects for the airport.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a multi-disciplined team of planners, architects, engineers, and other professionals to guide the planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and activation of various airport capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to develop a business case for potential capital projects.
  • Develop and present preliminary design alternatives and comparative analysis to address requests and/or concerns from LAWA leadership and/or project stakeholders throughout the planning and design process.
  • Review planning and design submittals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to the applicable project requirements, and provide meaningful and constructive feedback to the planning and design team.
  • Solicit feedback from internal and external project stakeholders, and guide design teams through competing interests and project constraints to ensure the best possible outcomes with respect to quality, cost, schedule, sustainability, resiliency, innovation, user experience, constructability, operational flexibility, maintainability, etc.
  • Manage planning and design efforts throughout all stages of a project (Project Definition, Concept Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Construction Administration) to ensure that projects fulfill their mission, while remaining on-schedule and on-budget.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions as projects advance from planning through design, procurement, construction, and activation.
  • Manage design efforts across multiple projects to ensure a cohesive architectural statement and user experience throughout the LAX campus.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, engineering, and/or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience, preferably on large complex airport capital projects.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with planning and design software (AutoDesk, Sketchup, etc.).
  • Experience with preparing planning documents and preliminary design packages for capital projects (i.e. business case, alternatives analysis, project definition books, concept design, schematic design, technical performance-criteria, etc.).
  • Experience with preparing comprehensive design and construction documents.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods (Progressive Design-Build, CMAR, etc.).
  • Experience with aviation and the associated regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with plan-check and permitting (preferably in Los Angeles).
  • Familiarity with the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of airport facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensed architect or engineer.
  • Optional certifications such as AAAE, CASp, LEED, PMP, etc.
