Position Overview
A Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (RTA) operates under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to assist patients with physical impairments or conditions in regaining mobility and managing discomfort. RTAs implement treatment plans devised by physical therapists that include stretching, strength enhancement, exercises, and manual therapy to facilitate patient recovery.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a tailored treatment strategy with defined therapy objectives based on the patient's capabilities and tolerance, as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Evaluates patient requirements; plans, assesses, and adjusts care to achieve the objectives of physical therapy interventions.
  • Works collaboratively with various healthcare professionals to establish and assess collective goals for each patient.
  • Sets attainable and realistic objectives for patients.
  • Records and documents the condition and progress of patients in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Informs patients and their families about suitable therapy techniques.
  • Enhances the functionality and skills of patients by providing, directing, and/or overseeing the assessment of all residents.
  • Communicates patient status and requirements to the patient, family members, and other relevant professionals.
  • Ensures punctuality and consistent attendance for assigned shifts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Complies with Minimum Data Set (MDS) protocols and effective care planning.
  • Offers guidance and clinical oversight to RTAs working within the facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations.
  • General knowledge of managed care principles.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding therapy delivery and documentation in skilled nursing environments.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current state PTA licensure.
Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
Preferred six months of experience in a long-term care setting.
