Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts interviews, hires, trains, and nurtures culinary and support staff under the guidance of the Director of Dining Services; organizes, assigns, and supervises tasks; evaluates performance; recognizes and addresses employee achievements and issues; resolves conflicts; adheres to established labor laws, and operates in accordance with Presbyterian Villages of Michigan policies and protocols.
  • Designs and implements menus for resident dining, special events, and catering services.
  • Ensures compliance with budgetary constraints related to food and labor costs.
  • Strives to meet resident satisfaction targets.
  • Maintains high standards of product and service quality through continuous assessment and resolution of complaints, in alignment with overall departmental standards.
  • Establishes work procedures, prepares staff schedules, and facilitates workflow for team members.
  • Implements and upholds preventative maintenance checks and systems in collaboration with the facilities department.
  • Ensures the security of food and supplies to minimize loss.
  • Manages all food and supply procurement utilizing approved vendors and established protocols.
  • Supervises and engages in the preparation and presentation of food and beverage items, ensuring adherence to standards for preparation, presentation, portion control, safety, and sanitation. This includes utilizing systems and documentation such as recipes and production logs.
  • Leads and participates in maintaining safety and sanitation standards, including the development of cleaning and sanitation schedules.
  • Guarantees that all food is prepared and served punctually.
  • Addresses customer feedback and concerns.
  • Stays informed on current culinary trends.
  • Participates in relevant meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures.
    • Safety regulations.
    • Federal, state, and local laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Culinary Degree or certification required. If only certification, a minimum of 3 years of experience is necessary. Previous management experience is preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Prior management experience is advantageous.

Computer Skills:

Proficient in computer operations.

Certificates & Licenses:

Must possess or obtain a valid Food Handlers Certification.

Other Requirements:

Strong mathematical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to navigate vendor online ordering systems; capacity to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and communicate effectively before groups of residents or staff.
