Petco Veterinary Technician Lead

Position Overview:
This leadership role involves providing exceptional veterinary care to our full-service hospital patients and delivering top-notch customer service to their owners. As a Veterinary Technician Lead, you will embody our company's values, setting the tone for technical and customer support in the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:
- Greeting and escorting clients and patients, obtaining vital signs, recording them in the electronic medical record, and documenting patient visits.
- Assisting veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under their direct supervision and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
- Performing patient restraint, obtaining and processing laboratory samples, handling and dispensing medications, and maintaining the electronic medical record.
- Scheduling appointments, communicating with clients, educating them, relaying test results, maintaining inventory, and managing accounts receivable.
- Preparing patients for surgical and dental procedures, inducing and monitoring anesthetized patients, monitoring recovery, and preparing them for discharge or transfer as needed.
- Providing in-hospital treatments, giving medications, and keeping patients clean, watered, and fed, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Participating in staff training and knowledge dissemination as required.
- Maintaining a clean hospital environment and performing regular cleaning tasks based on necessity and a pre-determined schedule.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performing additional duties as assigned and providing backup phone and front desk support when needed.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A college education or equivalent, with a certification as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
- At least one year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassion, sympathy, and the ability to maintain a professional attitude in emotionally challenging situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- A willingness to learn, offer creative ideas, and adapt to change as a team player.
Work Environment:
The majority of your work will be conducted in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. This role requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for extended periods. You will spend a significant amount of time interacting with clients and their pets.
Estimated Salary:
$18.75 - $30.25 per hour, based on the role's responsibilities and your location.
