Job Title: Furnace Technician

We are seeking a skilled Furnace Technician to join our team at Scot Forge, a 130-year-old, 100% employee-owned company that manufactures custom open die and rolled ring forgings.

Job Summary:

The Furnace Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, installing, building, calibrating, and tuning furnaces, as well as conducting repairs, preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical maintenance and a passion for working with heavy industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose problems with combustion, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment using various test procedures.
  • Work from quality procedures, customer specifications, industry specifications, machine manuals, and instructions from Group Leader, Supervisor, and Service Technicians.
  • Install and modify equipment in accordance with code and specification requirements.
  • Perform calibrations, testing, tuning, and preventative maintenance as required by specifications and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tests and calibrations and prepare appropriate reports.
  • Update test and testing procedures via manuals or computer systems (MasterControl).
  • Assist during installation of new equipment and retrofits of existing equipment.
  • Provide support for startup of new equipment.
  • Complete production timecards ensuring that accurate records are maintained.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance, testing, and calibration with appropriate production personnel.
  • Communicate production and equipment problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in the installation of refractories and setup dry out of castable refractories.
  • Maintain forklift and crane certifications.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement procedures, methods, and training and provide hands-on technical assistance in the development and implementation of improved controls and other engineering projects as directed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience.
  • Preferred 2-year Associates or equivalent program pursuing a degree in; mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance.
  • 5 years' experience in a heavy industrial maintenance.
  • Proficiency on Computer (Microsoft applications).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. On occasion while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat (air temperatures reach over 100 degrees F). The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, in wet and/or humid conditions, or near fumes, airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. When in the area of production, noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
