Job Summary

The Child Support Caseworker assists customers in the collection of child support and medical insurance payments. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain accurate case files and computer records of all assigned case activities.
  • Review child support applications and apply child support guidelines.
  • Research and execute enforcement procedures for child support within time frames as provided by Nevada Revised Statutes, federal regulations, and state and office policies and procedures.
  • Log documents, conversations, and other activities to maintain accurate case histories and calendared records.
  • Investigate and interview customers concerning payment or non-payment of child support, spousal support, medical expenses, and medical insurance coverage.
  • Negotiate payment amounts on delinquent child support with obligors and the court.
  • Resolve conflict situations and establish cooperation through discussion and persuasion.
  • Coordinate DNA testing with LabCorp and all relevant parties.
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents that are accurate, acceptable, and understandable to customers, other agencies, and the courts.
  • Attend court hearings and present case facts before the family court magistrate and district court judges.
  • Prepare case summaries of cases for use during court hearings.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops as requested which may include travel.
  • Provide coverage for other child support staff and receptionists as needed.
  • Explain child support programs and policies to organizations, agencies, and the public.
  • Participate in community outreach programs.
  • Update the child support program manager on work status and important developments they may need to know to function effectively.
  • Represent the department with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Maintain a valid Nevada driver's license.
Working Environment

The work environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust and fumes. The employee will be exposed to angry, abusive, and upset individuals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities should be expected.
