EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt/Salaried
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Temporary
POSITION SUMMARY: The Interim Assistant Principal plays a crucial role in fostering a positive educational environment at SER Learning Academy. This individual will assist educators with academic support, behavioral management, and student discipline. The role involves overseeing the assigned educational site and collaborating closely with teaching staff. Regular communication with parents regarding student performance and conduct is essential to uphold a safe and productive learning atmosphere.
About SER YOUTHBUILD Learning Academy: SYLA is dedicated to equipping students with the essential knowledge, skills, and self-discipline required for future success. Joining SYLA means becoming part of a team committed to making a significant difference in the lives of young individuals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide guidance, consultation, and assessment to address academic needs related to graduation, college applications, scholarships, and career planning.
- Engage daily with students, parents, and educators concerning attendance and disciplinary issues, ensuring consistent communication to enhance student engagement.
- Supervise, mentor, and support the educational team and school counselor at the designated site.
- Monitor student attendance and enforce attendance policies effectively.
- Organize student activities and develop programs that promote a conducive learning environment.
- Implement strategies to overcome learning barriers, including behavioral challenges and social adjustment.
- Assist educators with lesson planning and classroom management techniques.
- Oversee assessments and facilitate Professional Learning Communities with instructional staff.
- Manage the MTTS system at each campus and assist in compiling reports related to attendance and discipline.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee daily school operations, including the supervision of teachers, school counselor, and administrative staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Education with a valid Michigan Teaching Certification.
- Educational Administration Certificate.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an urban educational setting working with at-risk youth.
- Experience in staff supervision and management.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online educational tools.
- Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish is preferred.
- A genuine passion for youth development and education, aligned with the mission of SER Learning Academy.
- Exceptional instructional and classroom management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, community members, and staff.
- Strong cultural competence and understanding of urban educational environments.
- Knowledge of behavioral interventions and trauma-informed practices.
- Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Completion of required background checks is mandatory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates within a school setting equipped with standard office tools.
