Pest Control Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Pest Control Worker to join our team at the County of Los Angeles, CA. As a Pest Control Worker, you will be responsible for performing journey-level work in the eradication and control of field rodents and noxious weeds, leading a small crew engaged in this work, and ensuring safe operating practices and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads, directs, and participates in setting traps and the application of poisons for vertebrate pests.
- Leads, directs, and participates in treating rodent burrows and coyote dens with toxic fumigants.
- Leads, directs, and participates in the destruction of noxious weeds by mechanical removal or spraying with herbicides/pesticides.
- Demonstrates and ensures safe operating practices and procedures, departmental safety regulations, CAL-OSHA regulations, California Department of Pesticide Regulation, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines for use of safety equipment, protective devices, herbicide/pesticide applications, special clothing, etc.
- Observes and identifies common vertebrate pests and noxious weeds and reports evidence of infestation.
- Assists agricultural inspection personnel in the inspection of properties and searches for agricultural pests.
- Transports and issues equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment.
- Generates work records relating to the eradication or control of vertebrate pests and noxious weeds.
- Completes pest control agreement and liability forms for work performed.
- Sustains continual awareness and use of safeguards for all pest control operations to minimize adverse environmental impact.
- Use firearms to control predatory animals or other nuisance wildlife in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures as needed.
- Drives a county vehicle to various work sites throughout Los Angeles County.
- Ensures work site is clean after job completion.
- Assist in creating estimates for requested services from agencies, property owners/managers, or the general public.
Requirements:
- Six months of experience in the eradication and control of field rodents and noxious weeds.
- A current and valid Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) and/or Qualified Applicator License (QAL), issued by the State of California, Department of Pesticide Regulation with categories: A - Residential, Industrial, and Institutional, B - Landscape Maintenance, and C - Right-of-Way.
- A valid California Class C Driver License when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Working Conditions:
This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
Special Requirement Information:
Part-time experience will be prorated. In order to receive credit for the Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) and/or Qualified Applicator License (QAL), you must include a legible copy of the official certificate at the time of filing or within fifteen (15) calendar days from the date of filing application.
