The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is on the lookout for a Senior FEA/CFD Analyst who possesses extensive knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, CFX, and FLUENT. This role involves crafting comprehensive technical evaluations and simulations for utilities related to Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) facilities, utilizing various intelligence sources and analytical methodologies.

The ideal candidate will engage in research and development aimed at enhancing models that depict the processes involved in the creation of WMD materials and the operational functions of WMD facilities. The primary objective of this research is to facilitate investigations into the dynamics of these processes and to explore their vulnerabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical Reachback support to operational planners for both tactical and strategic initiatives.
  • Delivering training sessions to disseminate expertise among junior staff members.
  • Supporting exercises designed to evaluate new methodologies and analytical tools currently under development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team and exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capability to convey complex technical analyses in a manner that is accessible to non-experts and senior government officials.
  • Proficient in articulating technical analysis results and site evaluations in written form.
  • Expertise in ANSYS, LS-DYNA, CFX, and FLUENT.
  • 6 - 8 years of experience addressing engineering and scientific challenges within the Department of Defense (DoD).
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical engineering structural modeling or fluid dynamics modeling.
  • Direct involvement in reverse engineering, threat assessment, and vulnerability analysis of WMD-related facilities and processes, including underground structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Modeling and simulation experience with weaponeering and engineering analysis tools or similar.
  • Research and development of innovative tools and methodologies to analyze and reverse engineer processes and support systems at remote WMD-related facilities.
  • Top Secret clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) conducted within the last five years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Engineering or Physics.
  • 10 years of experience in addressing engineering and scientific challenges within the DoD.
  • Military or defense-related experience with a solid understanding of operational planning and strategies for neutralizing hard targets and underground facilities.
