Special Education Teacher

Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. seeks a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of special education principles and be able to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with and support all Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc.'s policies and procedures.
- Integrate the school philosophy and mission statement into the area of work.
- Meet the six New Mexico State competencies.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with Native American students and parents.
- Responsible for special education instruction in the classroom and developing individual education plans (IEP) for each identified student.
- Coordinate daily learning programs and provide for adequate parental involvement.
- Support children in finding activities and coordinate the implementation of services with Paraprofessionals.
- Responsible for PL 105-17 IDEA in-service training for all school staff/faculty.
- Attend staff and school meetings and activities.
- Responsible for own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or related field.
- Valid State of New Mexico Teacher Licensure with Special Education Certification.
- Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) endorsement preferred.
- Knowledgeable of PL 105- IDEA Regulations.
- Working knowledge of documentation necessary for Special Education requirements.
- Must be highly qualified in accordance with Federal No Child Left Behind Law and regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of State Academic Standards required.
- Have strong time management to organize, prioritize work, and to meet deadlines.
- Must have or obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit.
- Bilingual (Dine'/English) preferred.
- Must be able to meet minimum physical requirements; stand for a long period of time and lift at least 40 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
