The Student Support Services Academic Coach plays a vital role in delivering programmatic and direct assistance to students enrolled in the Student Support Services initiative, which serves multiple counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support student recruitment efforts, including application reviews, interviews, and the enrollment process;
  • Accompany and supervise students during cultural enrichment excursions;
  • Coordinate the administration of assessments for new students and review their academic backgrounds;
  • Develop individualized College Success Plans (CSP) for new participants, outlining recommended services and timelines;
  • Implement an intrusive advising strategy using an Appreciative Advising approach;
  • Monitor student progress through early alerts and attendance reports, intervening when necessary;
  • Assist students in effective communication with faculty, promoting self-advocacy;
  • Act as a resource for tutoring and personal counseling;
  • Guide students in course selection and registration;
  • Ensure regular engagement with SSS staff and maintain updated CSPs;
  • Manage social media accounts and maintain the program website;
  • Document all interactions and services while safeguarding student confidentiality;
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings to discuss program developments and student needs;
  • Provide monthly reports to the Director of Student Support Services;
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of tutors and instructional leaders;
  • Facilitate workshops aimed at enhancing academic skills;
  • Organize visits to four-year institutions to inform students about transfer opportunities;
  • Support the administration of supplemental grant aid programs;
  • Help plan annual events for program graduates;
  • Contribute to program newsletters and reports on outcomes;
  • Collaborate with college personnel to enhance retention and graduation rates;
  • Engage with TRiO staff for continuous program improvement;
  • Attend relevant meetings and conferences;
  • Travel to various campuses as required;
  • Complete mandatory staff development training;
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures;
  • Participate in college committees as assigned;
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, STEM, Health Sciences, Humanities, or a related field;
  • Two years of experience in teaching, tutoring, or advising students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of best practices for student retention and academic success;
  • Ability to effectively plan and execute program activities;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience in building rapport with first-generation and low-income students;
  • Team-oriented with effective presentation skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Proficient in utilizing technology;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently;
  • Respect for the diverse backgrounds of students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a community college setting;
  • Familiarity with STEM and Health Sciences programs;
  • Knowledge of TRiO or SSS services;
  • Experience in training and supervising staff;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Experience with data management systems;
  • Personal experience overcoming challenges similar to those faced by students in the program.
