Key Responsibilities
  • Build custom equipment on assigned projects, utilizing equipment construction skills and knowledge of copper pipe fitting and bending, soldering of copper and brass, and refrigeration assembly and building practices.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, interpreting drawings, schematics, sketches, pictures, and verbal instructions to bend copper, cut and fit copper pipe, solder copper and brass components, and assemble cabinets in HVAC equipment.
  • Fabricate steel parts as needed to support components, assemble cabinets, and fabricate sheet metal parts when required.
  • Prep and paint components to create a finished, professional product.
  • Complete assembly and welding requirements on assigned projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
  • Assist team members of other trades as needed; perform other trade work when needed.
  • Complete fabrication assignments on assigned projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
  • Prepare for assigned projects by examining project binders, consulting with the project manager and other technicians, trade team leaders, and production shop supervisor, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating work, as necessary.
  • Maintain tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear and performing any needed periodic maintenance.
  • Maintain work area in neat, clean, organized manner.
  • Document work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, quality check sheets, Traveler 2.0, refrigeration log, and parts logs. Maintain project files. Forward all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner to the next production work center.
  • Effectively work with purchasing and stocking personnel and returns unused resources.
  • Identify parts to order for construction, testing, and repair of equipment.
  • Assist with general office and shop initiatives as needed, helping to improve the business while controlling expenses and increasing income.
  • Work closely with other project technicians, temporary technicians, subcontractors, project managers, project engineers, trade team leaders, production shop supervisor, and interns in a team environment, offering technical advice, status information, and other help as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and teammates regarding issues of project scope and schedule.
  • Attend, contribute to, and/or lead meetings with team members, salesmen, customers, and management as needed.
  • Follow company standards for construction and quality, including but not limited to purging while brazing, pressure and leak checking standards, recovering and reclaiming refrigerant, etc.
  • Follow company safety policies.
  • Promote company safety policies to team members and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support, service, or training at customer site when needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work in other company departments when needed.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel with occasional overnight stays.
  • Participate and communicate new ideas and initiatives for the refrigeration team.
  • Has a clear understanding of our companies Code of Ethics and Compliance and promotes our companies Culture, understands rules and policies, and follows all that apply.
Requirements
  • Two (2) years soldering experience with both copper and brass using soft solder, silflos, and silver solder, pipe fitting, pipe bending experience preferred.
  • EPA universal certification is preferred but not required (must be able to obtain this certification with 6 months of start date prior to hire date).
  • Ability to learn, understand, and accomplish all refrigerant documenting procedures as required by Federal Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred.
