As an integral part of our educational framework, the Assistant Professor will be involved in the strategic planning, execution, and teaching of the Phase 1 curriculum at the School of Medicine.
The Assistant Professor in Medical Sciences will engage with students, provide mentorship, participate in various committees, and pursue independent research and scholarship as appropriate.
Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to the medical education program at the School of Medicine, which includes a comprehensive 3+1 curriculum designed for personalized learning in the fourth year following a rigorous three-year core.
- Encourage lifelong learning among students and utilize active learning methodologies in teaching.
- Provide service to the School of Medicine and engage in professional committees and communities.
- Actively participate in curriculum enhancement initiatives.
- Advise and mentor students.
- Support accreditation processes including LCME, MSCHE, OSHE, NJ-BME, and DOE.
- Engage in research and scholarship to further medical education and scientific inquiry.
- Fulfill additional faculty responsibilities and academic roles appropriate to rank and experience.
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Adhere to the organizational competencies and standards of behavior set forth by HMH.
QualificationsPossess a terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.O.) with a focus in a basic science discipline.
Demonstrate expertise in one of the following areas: Pharmacology, Physiology, Pathology, Immunology/Microbiology, or Anatomy/Neuroanatomy.
Show evidence of excellence in teaching within undergraduate medical education or similar health science environments.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Experience with team-based, problem-based, and case-based learning in both large and small classroom settings.
- Documented scholarship (publications, patents, grant funding, research) in a relevant field.
- Proven ability to effectively implement active learning strategies.
- Experience in developing integrated medical science course materials for undergraduate medical students in both preclinical and clinical stages.
- Skills to contribute to the ongoing development of a medical sciences department at a newly established allopathic medical school.
- Experience with LCME accreditation processes and the establishment of new medical institutions.
