Job Title: Senior Credit Underwriter
Overview: The Senior Credit Underwriter will deliver comprehensive commercial credit and financial analysis support to Renasant Bank's Commercial Lending Unit (CLU).
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the bank's more complex CLU credits associated with significant relationship exposures.
- Specialize in Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Residential Construction Lending, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPS), and other specialized lending types.
- Gather and develop credit information to assist the CLU in making informed lending decisions on new, renewal, and prospective loans by:
- Utilizing a checklist to ensure all essential financial information has been collected from borrowers and guarantors for assigned loan requests.
- Requesting any missing information as necessary.
- Reviewing and analyzing all relevant credit, collateral, and financial data.
- Preparing financial spreads, global cash flows, and real estate models.
- Drafting a detailed Credit Memo that includes the Transaction Summary, Borrower History, Relationship Overview, Financial Analysis of Borrowers and Guarantors, Repayment Capacity, Collateral Assessment, and Industry Overview.
- Creating written Relationship Credit Reviews.
- Monitoring financial indicator covenants.
- Providing insights and recommendations to Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, and other stakeholders regarding the creditworthiness of borrowers and guarantors, loan structure, risk ratings, and other critical financial factors.
- Managing pipeline workflow and communicating effectively with management as needed.
- Ensuring high-quality production and turnaround standards are consistently met.
- Completing nCino responsibilities for each assigned loan in line with the CLU Job Aide, including Pre-Flights, Total Exposure Determination, Final Review Steps, Covenants, Exceptions, and Loading Credit Information into the respective Document Management Systems.
- Participating in client calls with the Relationship Manager/Managing Director to gain insights into client needs and credit requests.
- Actively identifying and referring new business opportunities to appropriate bank personnel.
- Making additional product recommendations to the Relationship Manager/Managing Director.
- Applying Renasant Bank's Loan Policies and Department Procedures consistently in all assigned duties.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics preferred (or equivalent years of directly related experience will be considered).
- A minimum of 3 years of Commercial Underwriting experience or 5 years of relevant banking/lending experience.
- Experience with various collateral loan types and understanding how to calculate Loan-to-Value (LTV).
- Experience in underwriting commercial construction, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and CRE loans.
- Familiarity with underwriting specialty loan types.
- Ability to identify different commercial loan types and their purposes.
- Proficient in analyzing tax returns, accountant-prepared financial statements, and internally prepared financial statements.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn and utilize new systems, processes, policies, and procedures effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to use a financial calculator for loan payments and other financial calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
- Exhibit a positive, proactive, and flexible approach while providing excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
