Chief Operations Officer, Hospitalist Program

As the Chief Operations Officer, Hospitalist Program, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations and administration of the hospitalist program and hospital clinics at William Newton Hospital. Your primary goal will be to ensure the hospital's objectives are met, as established by the Hospital Board of Trustees and/or Administration.
This role directly oversees the hospitalist group, visiting specialists, general surgery clinic, wound care clinic, cardiology clinic, podiatry clinic, orthopedic clinic, pediatric clinic, OB/GYN clinic, and six Rural Health Clinics located in various areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Organize programs, policies, and procedures to assess, evaluate, and meet the needs of patients.
- Implement standards of practice, annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in clinic operations.
- Address and support cultural practices that do not harm others or interfere with planned medical therapy.
- Ensure clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures are available to staff, minimizing risk factors.
- Recommend modifications, additions, or deletions of personnel policies to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions for patient care coverage.
- Initiate and participate in problem-solving, policy-forming meetings for clinic and hospitalist care services.
- Maintain close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
- Oversee all aspects of patient care within the clinic setting, optimizing patient safety and reducing the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Participate in the hospital's decision-making process with the Hospital Board, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders.
- Plan and recommend new facilities or equipment or modifications thereto needed to provide patient care.
- Serve as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care.
- Participate in Hospital Board, Management Team, departmental, and various medical staff meetings.
- Plan and coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer, utilizing departmental supervisors for planning budgeting requirements for personnel, performance of work, supplies, and equipment.
- Responsible for cost controls to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgets.
- Implement an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of hospital clinic and hospitalist program services delivered to patients.
- Ensure clinic leaders and hospitalists review monthly performance improvement compliance with established indicators and take corrective actions when negative outcomes are identified.
- Collaborate with hospital leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising, and monitoring hospital-wide performance improvement activities.
- Adhere to dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance.
- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including state, federal, and CMS regulations.
- Maintain and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wear identification while on duty.
- Perform department in-services.
- Work at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Attend committee, CQI, and management meetings as appropriate.
- Resolve personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.
- Effectively and consistently communicate administrative directives to personnel and encourage interactive departmental meetings and discussion.
- Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicate the mission, vision, and core values of the hospital.
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or Business preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years prior experience in healthcare required.
- Minimum of three (3) years director-level or above experience required.
