As a Behavior Specialist, your role will involve guiding and supporting the implementation of a positive behavior support program across our educational settings, aimed at enhancing constructive student behaviors. This position prioritizes proactive strategies when addressing challenging behaviors and is equipped to respond to crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques, behavioral contracts, and interventions as outlined in students' behavioral intervention plans, when necessary. You will serve as a positive role model and influence for both students and colleagues.

‖ Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Implementing tailored interventions at individual, group, or systemic levels to foster positive academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and independent outcomes.
  • Reinforcing appropriate student conduct and redirecting negative behaviors while modeling these strategies for staff.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation related to the development and execution of student behavior strategies (SBS) or Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Collecting and analyzing behavioral data to monitor progress and support IEP teams in instructional decision-making.
  • Providing assistance to educators and classroom personnel in overseeing individual student behavior and managing class-wide behavior systems.
  • Executing SBS or BIPs in various instructional environments.
  • Applying principles of applied behavior analysis in educational settings under the guidance of a certified behavior analyst to enhance student outcomes and mitigate disruptive behaviors.
  • Conducting observations of classrooms or students using behavioral metrics necessary for functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Supporting classroom teachers in preparing and delivering learning activities, supervising students, and engaging in other school or classroom functions.
  • Delivering appropriate crisis intervention as needed, employing the least restrictive intervention techniques, anticipating and swiftly responding to escalating behaviors, and utilizing effective de-escalation methods to diffuse situations while ensuring safety.
  • Completing necessary documentation and reports, including incident records in accordance with program policies. Assisting in the preparation of additional behavior reports and daily activities as required, while maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Adhering to universal precautions and emergency procedures.
  • Identifying potential safety concerns and reporting them to the appropriate safety committee and supervisor.
  • Participating in team meetings, supervision sessions, and all-staff gatherings as directed.
  • Engaging in training opportunities to enhance knowledge of current behavioral principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Assisting in supervising students during school activities and providing support during transportation as requested.
  • Traveling to various site locations during the school day to support classrooms as needed.
  • Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.

‖ Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with successful completion of a basic skills assessment.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in an approved crisis management system.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with significant learning, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges.
  • Experience in educational program settings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is preferred.
  • Ability to think and act swiftly and calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Strong oral and written communication, instructional, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
