Career Counselor

At Equus Workforce Solutions, we are seeking a skilled Career Counselor to join our team. As a Career Counselor, you will play a vital role in helping young people succeed in school, obtain good jobs, and excel in their chosen fields.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a caseload of program participants and provide career technical/academic, social, and personal/career development counseling.
  • Assess and evaluate continuously those students assigned to you on both formal and informal levels.
  • Aid students in continuing their education or participating in additional training.
  • Aid students in connecting with community services necessary for successful transition from the Job Corps program to their chosen pathway.
  • Document minimum of two monthly student contact counseling sessions for minors and one counseling session for adult students.
  • Conduct ESP and MYPACE reviews as required by the PRH.
  • Perform retrieval efforts; grants and verifies leaves and passes per PRH and Center Director mandates.
  • Assist students in setting short and long-term goals, identifying strengths and career challenges and resolution of personal issues affecting career readiness.
  • Complete ongoing assignments given by the Counseling Supervisor and all other program administrative personnel.
  • Submit written student reports/evaluations as needed to outside agencies, referrals to Mental Health Consultant, Review Boards, or at the Center Director's request.
  • Participate in joint sessions with resident advisors and the Center Mental Health Consultant to review student records and completes special needs requests for Mental Health or additional specific counseling as needed.
  • Co-facilitate small group social skills sessions including employability skills and career success standards.
  • Track and manage projection data, updating weekly to ensure that students are moving as needed.
  • Participate in student orientation and development of employability plans for students.
  • Be assigned Counselor on Duty for the weekends in a rotational order.
  • Participate in all phases of Career Management Team decisions.
  • Clearly communicate and consistently model appropriate CSS and employability skills.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property.
  • Adhere to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Foster and sustain a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, thereby ensuring a safe space for both staff and students to engage in work and learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction) required.
  • One year experience in counseling or related field required.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of youth.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
