The Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone of support and empowerment in the Harrisburg community since its inception in 1910. The organization is dedicated to providing essential resources, programs, and services that promote the well-being and development of individuals and families.

Offering a variety of services, including child care, educational initiatives, health and wellness programs, and community engagement activities, The Neighborhood Center has pioneered efforts to meet community needs. Notably, it established the first kindergarten for African-American children in Harrisburg and developed innovative programs for children with physical and learning disabilities, serving as models for local educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and articulate a compelling vision for The Neighborhood Center, inspiring staff, volunteers, and the community towards shared objectives.
  • Lead the formulation and implementation of strategic plans that align with the organization's mission, utilizing data-driven insights to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Foster a culture that values diversity, promotes collaboration, and encourages innovation and excellence.

Financial Oversight:

  • Work closely with the Treasurer to ensure the financial stability of the Center, overseeing accurate reporting, budgeting, and compliance with regulations.
  • Devise and execute strategies to secure diverse funding sources, including grants, donations, and sponsorships, while maintaining strong relationships with donors and partners.
  • Provide timely analyses that communicate fundraising outcomes and performance trends.

Program Development:

  • Design and implement initiatives that respond to community needs effectively.
  • Oversee the management of programs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that all programs operate efficiently and meet established objectives.

Community Engagement:

  • Act as the primary representative and advocate for The Neighborhood Center.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Engage with the United Methodist Church and its conference to ensure alignment with broader mission objectives.

Operational Management:

  • Assess and maintain the facility, implementing a comprehensive maintenance plan.
  • Oversee organizational performance and report results to the Board of Directors regularly.
  • Develop and implement a talent management strategy to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in human services, social services, education, business, communications, theology, or humanities, or
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with relevant experience, or
  • Associate's degree in early childhood education or related fields with significant experience working with children.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in managing high-quality child care or early education programs.
  • Experience in diverse and multicultural environments.
  • Successful track record in fundraising and community engagement.
  • Strong organizational and financial management skills.
  • Ability to innovate and implement community-responsive programming.

Additional Requirements:

  • Compliance with Pennsylvania Child Care Center Director qualifications.
  • Health assessment as per state regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and clearances as required by law.
